XLS هو تنسيق جداول البيانات الثنائي القديم المستخدم في Excel 97-2003. يخزّن البيانات والأوراق والتنسيقات في بنية OLE2 ثنائية مع حدود لعدد الصفوف (65,536) والأعمدة (256).

التفاصيل التقنية

ملفات XLS تستخدم تنسيق الملفات الثنائية المركبة (BIFF8 في OLE2). تُخزّن بيانات الخلايا في سجلات ذات أنواع محددة: NUMBER وLABEL وFORMULA وRK (أعداد صحيحة مضغوطة).

التاريخ

استخدمت Microsoft تنسيق XLS من Excel 97 حتى 2003. كانت حدوده (65K صف، 256 عمود) كافية في التسعينيات لكنها أصبحت قيداً خطيراً مع نمو أحجام البيانات.
